England will be looking to secure a series whitewash when they take on India in the fifth and final match at Rose Bowl in Southampton on Saturday, July 11. The hosts are currently 3-0 up and have already secured the trophy convincingly.
The Three Lions earned a comfortable nine-wicket win over the defending champions in Bristol to wrap the series up with a game in hand. This luxury allows the hosts to play a slightly rotated side for the fifth match in Southampton, giving key players some much-needed break ahead of the all-important ODI series against the same opponents.
There is little to no reason why England would make changes to their top order for the fifth T20I. Both Phil Salt and Harry Brook have been in excellent form, as evident by their innings in the game in Bristol. Buttler, on the other hand, is short on runs in recent outings and desperately needs to rekindle his form ahead of the ODI series against India. Despite his underwhelming form with the bat, the former captain is still the best wicketkeeper in the squad.
The beauty of England’s middle order is the flexibility on offer, with batters able to change the batting order based on the situation. Amongst the four players coming in the middle, three of them can offer vital overs, something which forms the crux of the England XI. The only changes Brook’s side can make are to replace Tom Banton with an equally aggressive option in Jordan Cox and hand James Coles an international debut, replacing Will Jacks
England’s new-ball attack comprising Jofra Archer and Josh Tongue has won them the last two matches. The Three Lions could therefore opt to rest the pair and bring back Luke Wood and Saqib Mahmood in the playing XI. The latter played in the first T20I of the series and took three wickets before being sidelined in favour of Archer. Rehan Ahmed, meanwhile, replaced Liam Dawson in the fourth game, but neither batted nor bowled. The Leicestershire all-rounder, therefore, could maintain his place in the playing XI in Southampton.
England: Phil Salt, Jos Buttler (WK), Harry Brook (C), Jacob Bethell, Tom Banton, Sam Curran, Will Jacks, Rehan Ahmed, Saqib Mahmood, Adil Rashid, Luke Wood
