Zimbabwe will take on Bangladesh in the second T20I of the three-match series at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo on Thursday, July 16. The hosts hold a 1-0 lead after registering a convincing 32-run victory in the opening game and will be eager to seal the series. Bangladesh, on the other hand, must win to force a decider.
One of the most exciting contests in the second T20I will be between Zimbabwe opener Brian Bennett and Bangladesh speedster Nahid Rana.
Bennett looked in sublime touch in the first T20I, smashing 44 runs off just 30 balls with the help of six fours and a six. His aggressive approach during the powerplay gave Zimbabwe the momentum they needed to post a competitive total.
However, Nahid had the final say in that battle. The young pacer dismissed Bennett and finished with outstanding figures of 4/26, emerging as Bangladesh’s best bowler on the day. With his raw pace and ability to generate extra bounce, Nahid will once again be tasked with removing Bennett early.
If Bennett manages to survive Nahid’s opening spell, Zimbabwe could be set for another strong start. But if Nahid strikes early, Bangladesh will gain the upper hand.
Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza will once again be a key figure with both bat and ball, but his contest against Bangladesh opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim could prove crucial.
Although Tanzid scored just 16 off eight balls in the first T20I, he looked positive before falling early. Interestingly, he has enjoyed success against Zimbabwe throughout the tour, registering scores of 94 and 57 in the ODI series. Bangladesh will be hoping he carries that form into this must-win encounter.
Raza is likely to introduce himself into the attack if Tanzid gets set at the crease. The off-spinner has been effective in controlling left-handed batters with his variations and clever changes of pace. While the duo have faced each other only briefly in T20Is, this matchup has the potential to influence the course of Bangladesh’s innings.
The battle between Brad Evans and Taskin Ahmed could be decisive during the death overs.
Evans continued his fine form in the first T20I, scoring an unbeaten 19 off just 10 deliveries. His late cameo helped Zimbabwe push their total to 170, which eventually proved more than enough. The all-rounder has also been among the runs throughout the tour, having scored 50 and 58 not out in the ODI series.
Taskin, meanwhile, had a quiet outing in the opening T20I. Although he bowled economically, conceding only 22 runs in four overs, he failed to pick up a wicket. The experienced fast bowler has consistently taken wickets during the ODI series and will be eager to bounce back with a stronger performance.
If Evans is at the crease in the final overs, Taskin’s execution with the yorker and slower balls will be put to the test.
